"Ode to the Horse"

 

(Inspired by the Horse of the Year show) 


Poetry in motion,

Gentle, but strong, 

He has left his mark on history

And on the hearts of man. 

He is pure power- horsepower. 

He has served faithfully. 

Without him, civilization is nothing. 

Mada mizu no yona kokoru- the peace he provides. 

The horse seeks me. 

I seek him.

We seek each other.

A connection like none other,

The king of the wind, 

A reflection of you, 

A friend, 

A warrior, 

A priceless bond, 

Like thunder, he shakes the ground,

He weighs at least one thousand pounds 

Noble,

Strong, 

Peaceful,

Was Jay Gatsby Really Great?

          Fitzgerald’s  Great Gatsby  challenges the ideal American life through the protagonist, Jay Gatsby. Gatsby’s life serves as an example of the detrimental effects the “ideal life” can have on one’s character and quality of life. F. Scott Fitzgerald suggests that the American dream is not as great as it is made out to be.         The title,  Great Gatsby , gives the impression that Gatsby was a admirable character, but a look into his inner life proves otherwise.
